Eligibility
- 1. Who can enter Wolda?
- Designers, agencies, studios and students from all over the world are invited to enter.
- 2. Are students treated like professionals?
- Wolda is dedicated to professional designers, but it is open to students and young talented designers as well: Wolda Talent has very special prices and partnerships with schools and institutions for even more discounts. All submitted logos are then subject to the same tough selection process and student work (after a pre-selection by our editorial staff) competes on level terms with logos submitted by some of the most successful international designers and agencies.
- 3. Do I have to be a member of a design association or school to enter?
- Absolutely not, non-members are also welcome. But members of endorsing associations or schools enjoy a 20% discount on entry and purchase of the book. If you belong to an association that has not yet endorsed Wolda, please let us know or ask them to contact us.
- 4. Can I only submit logos created last year, or is older work also eligible?
- For Wolda 2008, only logos printed, published or visible online between January 1, 2007 and December 31, 2007 are eligible.
How to enter
- 5. Where can I get the Call-For-Entries?
- Full terms and conditions are contained in "The Rules", which you can read on the website or download as a pdf file.
- 6. How do I enter the award scheme?
- Click on the "Enter now" button, then fill in the required fields to create a new account and click on "submit". You'll receive an email with a link which you click on to activate your account. Once your account is active, you can start submitting logos (you can log in and out whenever necessary).
- 7. Can I fill out a paper application form instead of using the online procedure?
- No, sorry. The registration and submission process is entirely online. There are no paper forms to fill out (except for the Offline Payment option, see under Payment below).
- 8. What should be stated in the VAT field when creating an account?
- If you have a VAT number, state it in the VAT field. If not, just leave this field blank.
- 9. What format should the logos be submitted in?
- Each logo should be in colour on a white background (unless it has been designed in black and white). In order to be printed in the Wolda Annual in case of selection, all logo files submitted should respect the following specifications: vector format (Illustrator, Freehand, InDesign, PDF) in CMYK colour (no Pantone). If your files include fonts, please convert them to outline (vector). PageMaker and Quark files are not accepted. In case of non-vector images, files must respect the following specifications: 300 dpi resolution, minimum size 4" x 4" (about 10cm x 10cm), TIFF format in CMYK colour. Files should not exceed 10MB in size.
- 10. I am having problems submitting my logos online. Can you help me?
- Please try again later, there may be a temporary problem with our system. Please note that Internet Explorer for Macintosh is NOT supported. Macintosh users are advised to migrate to an alternative browser such as Firefox or Safari. If the problem persists, please send an email to info(at)wolda(dot)org with the heading "Submission problem" giving details of the problem, and we'll look into it as quickly as possible.
- 11. What information is required for each logo submitted?
- Each logo submitted should be accompanied by a short description (in English only, do not send different languages) detailing the client, the product and the concept of the logo.
- 12. Why do you ask for information about my clients? Do you intend to contact them?
- We would never contact your clients without your consent. We only require the name and the URL of the client for each logo, to be included in the published credits.
- 13. Aren't you interested in the "graphic universe" of the logo (its use, applications, etc.)?
- We consider logo design and the application of logos in context to be two separate disciplines. While both disciplines are important in the real world, for the purposes of Wolda we have chosen only to look at "pure" logo design.
- 14. How will I know if you have received my submission?
- You will receive a confirmation email as soon as your entries have been registered.
- 15. Can I withdraw a logo I have already submitted and paid for?
- Yes, you can. To do so, please send us a written request (by post or email). As long as you withdraw the logo before the entry deadline, you will receive a 50% refund on the entry fee. No refunds after the entry deadline.
Entry fees
- 16. Do I have to pay the entry fee even if my logo is not published?
- Yes, the entry fee is applicable to all logos submitted. We cannot guarantee that every logo you submit will be selected for publication, as this depends on the judges' decision.
- 17. Why should I pay an entry fee if you make money from the annual?
- The entry fees go some way towards covering the significant costs we incur in organising and promoting the award scheme. Your entry fee represents a small investment with the possibility of a huge return in terms of visibility for the winners.
- 18. Do I have to pay VAT on the entry fee?
- As Eulda Books is an Italian company, we are required to charge VAT at 20% on entry fees under Italian law. The entry fees stated already include VAT. (There is no VAT on purchase of the annual.)
- 19. Are there any further fees to pay if my logo is published?
- No. Unlike some other design competitions, we do not ask our winners to pay any additional fees to cover printing, certificates, trophies or promotion.
Payment options
- 20. What options are there for paying the entry fee?
- You can pay either online (via the Wolda website) or offline. If you choose online payment, you can pay directly using your credit card (VISA, Master Card, American Express) or using Paypal if you have a Paypal account. If you don't want to pay online, then you can download and print our offline payment form and pay by bank transfer or cheque instead.
- 21. If I pay offline, what documents do I need to send as confirmation of payment?
- All you need to do is to send us (by fax or email) a copy of the completed offline payment form along with a copy of the bank transfer order/confirmation. If paying by cheque, send the offline payment form by post along with the cheque.
- 22. Can you charge my card directly if I send you my credit card details?
- No, sorry. For your own security we don't accept payment by this method.
- 23. Can someone else pay on my behalf?
- Yes, another person can make payment for you using their credit card or Paypal account.
- 24. As a member of an association or school that endorses Wolda, how do I get the discount on entry?
- Just select the name of the association or school you belong to from the pick list in the relevant field. You can do this either during account creation or later, by changing the information in the account details area. The discount will automatically be applied during online payment.
- 25. How will I know if you have received payment?
- We'll send you a confirmation email when payment is received. Please note that in some cases, especially with offline payment, it may take a few days for payment to be confirmed.
- 26. Will I receive a receipt or invoice for my records?
- Yes, an invoice is automatically sent to you as an attachment to the payment confirmation email. Please keep a copy for your records.
- 27. I have not received any invoice. What can I do?
- The payment confirmation email is written in html (not simple text) and has attachments, so it may have been blocked by your anti-spam, anti-virus, firewall or email browser software. If you log on to your Wolda account, you should be able to view and print the invoice.
- 28. I have not received any invoice and I can't download it from my Wolda account. What now?
- You may have closed your browser before the payment procedure was completed. If so, we will need to register the payment manually. If you think this has happened, please send an email to info(at)wolda(dot)org with the heading "Invoice problem" giving details.
- 29. I have a payment question that is not covered here. Can you help?
- If you can't find the answer to your payment query here, please send an email to info(at)wolda(dot)org with the heading "Payment problem" giving details.
Judging and winners
- 30. Will all logos submitted be published in the annual?
- No, only those logos that pass the judges' selection process will be included in the annual.
- 31. What prizes will the winners receive?
- There is a "Best of World" trophy for the overall winner plus "Best of Continent" and "Best of Nation" tropies for the designers of the best logos from each country. Trophies and certificates are also provided for the client in each case. All entries selected for publication receive a winner's certificate. Further benefits are listed in "The Rules" area of the website.
- 32. How will I know if I am a winner?
- Winners will be notified personally as soon as judging is completed, and they will also be announced online. The date of the announcement will be stated in advance on the website. Please do not call.
- 33. Will there be a prize-giving ceremony?
- This has not yet been decided. If we do decide to hold a ceremony, full details will be sent to winners. It will also be announced on the website and in the Wolda monthly newsletter.
- 34. Why are there no judges from my country on the jury?
- Judges are selected for Wolda each year by prestigious international organisations. Each organisation is asked to supply 10 judges from a range of different nationalities, but the three organisations operate independently from one another. This means that in any given year, certain countries may end up not being represented on the jury.
- 35. Can I be a judge next year?
- Judging is only by invitation from one of the three independent selecting organisations.
